Weddings vs Micro-weddings vs Elopements
As a Dallas Wedding photographer, one of the things I love most about this job (aside from being the person to capture your love story) is that no two weddings are the same. Depending on the couple’s personality, budget, and relationships their ceremony can be elaborate, large affairs with hundreds of guests or small, intimate affairs with just a few close friends and family. There are some couples who want all the bells and whistles while others will be saying “I do” at the courthouse with a solo photographer capturing the moment. There are typically three types of weddings that couples decide on: a “traditional” big wedding vs a micro wedding vs an elopement. Here is how you can tell them apart and decide which may be the best option for you and your spouse.
The Big “Traditional” Wedding
You know these well and have seen them in the movies and on TV. Big “traditional” wedding is complete with all the bells and whistles like flowers, gowns, tuxedos, a cake and more that takes place at a large venue. These are a full day affair with typically a large guest list.
The “Micro-Wedding”
Micro-weddings have certainly grown in popularity over recent years. So what is a micro wedding? It’s a small, intimate wedding with only those closest to you in attendance. Usually just immediate family members and closest friends. These are typically not a full-day affair compared to a big wedding and are held in the same location from start to finish in one location such as someone’s backyard or a smaller venue.
The Elopement
Micro-weddings and elopements can often get confused. An elopement is the most intimate version of celebration and really getting married your own way. Oftentimes the elopement is just the couple, an officiant, and a photographer. Typically, those who elope only have a ceremony and do not host a reception or celebration.
Remember, at the end of the day, you deserve to get hitched any damn way you please! Decide on what type of wedding is best for you and your partner because this is YOUR happily ever after.
