As a wedding photographer, I have to admit one of my favorite trends right now is people making videos of themselves exposing and roasting their “dream wedding” Pinterest board that they had put together at a young age with some trends that quickly died. After laughing at a few of those TikToks / Reels, I started thinking about the pros and cons of using Pinterest to plan your wedding and since I’m not your average photographer I’m going to list those out for you!
Let’s start with the pros – first off it’s free and easy to use (even if you are not tech-savvy!), but the biggest pro, in my opinion, is that it is an excellent tool for inspiration. Pinterest has thousands of pins dedicated to weddings, so it’s easy to find ideas for everything from invitations to cake designs. You can also search for specific topics like “invitations” or “reception favors” to narrow down your search or even a honeymoon destination!
Now for the cons – because of everything Pinterest has to offer, it becomes too easy to get overwhelmed by all of the wonderful things you see on there and then spend hours pinning things that you don’t really need or want. Also, like most things on the internet, not everything is what it seems; a beautiful pin doesn’t always share pricing information, editing that went into the image, time spent on the project, etc.. it’s hard to get a sense of what that pin idea will realistically look like for your wedding.
To sum it up, use Pinterest for inspiration and don’t let yourself get caught in a procrastination spiral. The more time you spend on Pinterest, the more ideas you’ll have in what you want for your wedding which means it’ll be harder to make decisions when it comes time to start making them. Just remember, this is about being inspired by others, getting clarity on your vision, and making your dream wedding come to life.
