First looks have gained a lot of popularity in the wedding industry in recent years. While first looks have become super trendy because they allow couples to see each other before the ceremony and take a moment together before all of the wedding craziness commences, they’re not for everyone! At the end of the day you have to do what feels best for you and your significant other so let’s break down the pros and cons of doing a first look so you can plan your perfect fairytale day.
The biggest pro, in my opinion, is that you get to hang out with your partner without the added stress and pressure of the ceremony and enjoy some quality time together before all of the wedding craziness begins. Another big pro is that you’re able to do most of your portraits together before your ceremony so that after your ceremony you can make it to your cocktail hour and enjoy all the incredible food you picked out. Lastly, it helps to relieve some of the stress and anxiety surrounding the big day, because you’ll already have had some time together to celebrate and relax before the big event.
The biggest con for couples for a first look is that they feel a first look may take away from the emotions of seeing each other for the first time during the ceremony. Typically first looks are done before the ceremony which means your morning of hair and makeup may be starting earlier than you anticipated (so if you are not a morning person this may not be the option for you!).
Like I’ve said time and time again, you deserve to get hitched any damn way you please so if you don’t want to do a first look – don’t! If you want to, go for it!
